Often referred to as a "Miami Gem," the Lowe Art Museum on the University of Miami campus is not to be missed. This fabulous art museum features 16,000 objects in its complete collection, housing some of the most important artwork you can find in the southeast. With impressive pieces from the Renaissance and Baroque periods, Lowe's truly shines with its American, Native American, pre-Columbian, African and Asian art exhibits. Take a stroll down Miami's magnificent boardwalk. Miami Beach boasts a beautiful four mile boardwalk which runs from 5th Street to 46th Street. The walkway takes visitors down Ocean Drive and behind the city's oceanfront hotels. Exploring the boardwalk is a great way to get some exercise and see unparalleled views of the Atlantic Ocean. Best of all, boardwalk admission is completely free.
Spend a day at Crandon Park & Beach in Key Biscayne. When you need a break from the hustle and bustle of Downtown Miami, escape to this natural paradise. Crandon Park offers one of the best beaches in the country, and is home to a number of animals and wildlife native to Miami-Dade County. The park offers guided tours of the surrounding area ($5 per person), including Crandon Park Beach, the playground, roller rink, carousel, the Biscayne Nature Center and the Crandon Park Gardens. Catch the Full Moon Fever at Barnacle State Park. Every month (January through May) this historic park hosts a family-fun concert underneath the full moon in Coconut Grove. The Gold Coast Railroad Museum is definitely considered a diamond in the rough. Suitable for train enthusiasts of all ages, the museum is home to numerous ancient train cars, featuring the Ferdinand Magellan, which was built for FDR! Perhaps you have a history buff on your hands. Don't pass up the opportunity to check out the Historical Museum of Southern Florida.
