Top Reno Restaurants
Reno, Nevada is becoming a more and more popular alternative to crowded, over-developed Las Vegas. It has its share of casino/resorts, but is known for a more laid-back atmosphere. This relaxed vibe carries over into the eating and entertainment scenes.
When it comes to restaurants, Reno has everything from five-star gourmet eateries, not unlike the high end casino/resort venues in Vegas, to relaxed, family-friendly spots serving quality local food.
Here is where to find some of the best flavors in Reno.
Reno’s restaurants are not just for dinnertime. One of the most famous places to eat in town is a breakfast spot. Peg’s Glorified Ham and Eggs is a local favorite that features all sorts of breakfast treats from huevos rancheros to waffles to eggs benedict. This is such a popular place, especially on the weekends, that it is a good idea to call ahead to put your name on the waiting list.
Of course, Reno restaurants aren’t all focused on the first meal of the day. There are several good Asian eateries in the city. Hiroba Sushi is widely considered to be the best place in town to get Japanese food. Like many sushi places in non-coastal cities, it can be quite expensive compared to other types of restaurants, but the fish at Hiroba is fresh and the dishes are of high quality. Palais de Jade is a Chinese eatery that offers more food per dollar. It offers Chinese restaurant staples like kung pao chicken and roast duck. The menu is large, with some funky dishes for those in search of something more authentic than usual. The décor is interesting: strictly French style. The food, however, is 100% Chinese. Jazmine is a hipper Asian-themed offering with pan-Asian cuisine and fusion dishes and slightly higher prices than the family-owned Asian places in town.
Reno’s Washoe Grill has been a Reno area institution for quite a while. The Western-themed steakhouse offers impressive quality and decent portions in a fun-loving atmosphere. In the past, the Washoe, which offers reasonably priced dishes, has been called one of the best restaurants in Reno.
The 4th Street Bistro is a good place of conscientious diners. The chef has designed a menu based on locally-grown, seasonal ingredients. The menu changes depending on the season, but the food is always of high quality. This is one of the more respected restaurants in Reno.
Roxy’s, at the El Dorado Resort, is a high quality French-American fusion restaurant with French décor and great views overlooking the resort’s courtyard. The eatery has an extensive wine list and a thick martini menu. The desserts are as highly rated as the entrees.
If you aren’t sure which cuisine you are in the mood for, Biscotti’s is one of the better choices in Reno. This restaurant, in the Peppermill Hotel and Casino, offers one of the most diverse menus in all of Nevada. Items range from Italian food to Asian dishes. The décor and atmosphere are quite casual and the adjoining Biscotti’s Café offers pastries and coffee-based drinks.
Harrah’s Steakhouse is a classic eatery that wouldn’t be out of place in Las Vegas or New York. If you are looking for a romantic, upscale venue to enjoy a steak (or some seafood or generously cut chops), this is it. This is another steakhouse that is widely considered the best in the city.
These are the best of the many eateries in Reno. Although this “second city of Nevada” can’t compete with the overall number of eating options in Vegas, it has more than its share of exciting, interesting, high-quality places to enjoy a meal. From international foods to hearty steaks to great breakfasts, Reno has more than enough to satisfy the hungriest visitor.
