Welcome To Boston
Boston is a must-see city for anyone planning a trip to New England. Known as the "Cradle of Liberty," Boston has a reputation for being the multicultural center of the region, offering an array of trendy and antique shopping experiences, delicious cuisines inspired from around the world, and various cultural attractions including the Museum of Fine Arts and the New England Aquarium. Massachusetts' capital has a long and vibrant past, dating back to 1630, and is one of the nation's oldest metropolitan areas. Rich in historical significance--famous Americans including Paul Revere, John Hancock and Ralph Waldo Emerson all called Boston their home--the city is now a beautiful skyline of modern skyscrapers and Colonial churches, complete with two of the most prestigious universities in the U.S., and many beautifully tended urban parks. From Samuel Adams Brewery to Fenway Park, there are plenty of attractions for all ages to enjoy. It's never too early, or late, to plan your next vacation to Boston, Massachusetts.
Winter Travel Tips
During its coldest months, December through February, Boston averages temperatures in the low 20s. Still, the weather in New England can be quite unpredictable, fluctuating from warm and sunny to chilly and cloudy on any given day, and temperatures tend to be colder the closer you get to the ocean. While there are plenty of indoor activities for winter tourists (see What To Do), you'll still want to navigate one of America's most walkable cities by foot. Don't forget to pack a winter coat if you're visiting during low season: January to March. We also recommend wearing plenty of layers, and a good pair of winter boots.
What To Do
Your Boston experience will vary, depending on the time of year you visit. Outdoor adventures like the Boston By Foot Tours, The Boston Duck Tours, and the Old Town Trolley Tours are popular in the spring, summer, and fall, while museums, plays, and special events, like Boston's Historic Holiday Strolls on Freedom Trail are perfect for the colder months. Don't pass up a chance to see the Boston Red Sox during baseball season. No matter when you visit, a trip to the Samuel Adams Brewery is highly recommended for visitors over 21 years of age, where you'll learn all about the famous revolutionary and aspiring brewer, as well as a detailed account of today's brewing process. Discounts on Boston's most popular tours and attractions can be found year-round through Trusted Tours & Attractions.
When To Book
While accommodation prices rarely vary throughout the year, it's strongly encouraged to book your Boston hotel at least four to eight weeks in advance. An even earlier reservation date is recommended if you plan to travel in May, June, September or October. Boston is home to several colleges, and nearby hotels will fill up a year or more in advance for commencement. Restaurant reservations close to universities can be difficult to arrange during special events like graduation and parents' weekends, so make sure to plan accordingly.
