WestJet Airlines

WestJet deals are some of the most affordable on Canada’s largest low-cost-carrier. It is a young airline (the first WestJet plane took off in 1996) that began as a charter service. It flies to 71 destinations in North America. Most flights are domestic, though there is regular service to Mexico and the Caribbean and to more than a dozen destinations in the US. WestJet also offers seasonal service to popular vacation destinations in the Caribbean, Florida and Hawaii.

WestJet follows a similar low-cost business model to Southwest Airlines. Both airlines rely on Boeing 737 airplanes, although WestJet’s planes have extra features. The airline has installed seat-back TV screens on all of its newer aircraft. These screens show TV shows that are sent to the plane via satellite. WestJet’s cabins also feature leather seats. Though there is an additional charge for meals, WestJet is known for the quality of its in-flight food. Local restaurants are often used to provide fresh sandwiches. These extra in-flight features have earned WestJet a loyal following in Canada.

Like Southwest and JetBlue in the US, WestJet has changed the air travel industry in Canada. Air Canada and its affiliates had a virtual monopoly on many domestic routes in Canada until WestJet came along. Air Canada was forced to launch its own low-cost brand, Air Canada Jazz, to remain competitive with WestJet.
