Golf Courses in Dallas

Warm, dry weather, a strong economy, and the Texan taste for larger-than-life experiences combine to make it a target destination for weekend warriors in all sorts of sports. Golf may not feature the hard-hitting violence one might find at a football game (unless you count the destroyed putters in the bushes surrounding a particularly unforgiving green), but regardless of your preferences or skill level, if you’re a duffer, you will find something suitable on at least one of Dallas’ golf courses. You have dozens to choose from.

Since you’re in the Lone Star State, and you seek the best, let’s tee off at the Texas Star Golf Course. It’s the highest-rated course in the area, having been praised by Golf Digest (four stars) and covers 7,001 yards. That one extra yard? Because Texas has never seen an impressive number it didn’t want to make bigger. Proudly boasting the “toughest greens in North Texas,” the Texas Star at least gives you a magnificent view on your way to wrecking your par, with immaculate groundskeeping and a huge complex that caters to the entire family.

As part of the Texas Star Sports Centre, golf is just the tip of the Texas star. They also feature a driving range, tee-ball, baseball, softball fields, batting cages, and more. Covering 321 acres, this complex will allow the golfers in your party to enjoy their round without feeling like they are abandoning anybody in their party who doesn’t know who Titanic Thompson is. Just let them hit the batting cages or driving range, and tell them that if you break par, you’ll treat them to banana bread French toast at the Raven’s Grille afterwards. If they react with, “Banana bread French toast!? We’re in Texas!” then feel free to capitulate. The Grille has steak options at any meal they serve.

Speaking of Dallas and stars and sports tradition, all of these Texan treats can be shared together at the Dallas Cowboys Golf Club. Fans of rival clubs might wish to steer clear, because regardless of the quality of the grounds, the innovative hole design, and the commitment to excellence, the regular totems to the accomplishments of the Dallas Cowboys might just add that extra level of frustration that will wreck your score.

The Coyote Ridge Golf Club is no stranger to accolades itself. With praise from Avid Golfer magazine that ranges from the course itself to the customer service and even the food, Coyote Ridge is the place for the total experience. Even the course itself is designed to have something for almost everyone. There are no holes that challenge players to shoot through a windmill, but the front and back nine call for different sets of skills. On the front, players deal with the usual assortment of hills, bunkers, and water traps. Then you make your turn and find a back nine that is a repurposed gravel quarry criss-crossed by the windy Coyote Creek. You’ll need your whole bag of tricks (and clubs) to come in with a good score. But if you fudge a little or give yourself an extra mulligan, don’t sweat it. We won’t tell.
